Portofino Series 55% Viscose 35% Wool 10% Cotton Handwoven Modern Living Room Rug – Ivory
The Portofino Series Handwoven Rug is a collection of modern designs that combines style and comfort with a blend of 55% viscose, 35% wool, and 10% cotton. The silky sheen of viscose, the warmth of wool, and the lightness of cotton come together in one rug. A 10 mm pile height provides balanced softness, while its weight of 5000 g/m² creates a substantial, full-bodied, and long-lasting structure. With its modern, Mediterranean-inspired design, it makes a timeless statement in spaces such as living rooms and lounges. This variant stands out in a bright and elegant ivory shade, with viscose’s silky sheen shifting in the light.
What Are Viscose, Wool, and Cotton?
The Portofino Series is made from a balanced blend of viscose, wool, and cotton fibers, each contributing its own qualities to the rug. Viscose is a regenerated fiber made from wood cellulose; its silk-like softness and natural sheen add a touch of luster to the surface. Wool is a natural fiber obtained from sheep; it provides warmth, resilience, and durability. Cotton is a natural, breathable, and strong plant-based fiber that gives the rug balance and structure. The Portofino Series combines 55% viscose, 35% wool, and 10% cotton. This blend balances viscose’s silky sheen, wool’s warmth and durability, and cotton’s ability to hold its shape. Combined with a 10 mm pile height and a dense weave weighing 5000 g/m², it creates a luxurious, substantial, and long-lasting handwoven rug, both in appearance and construction.
Is Viscose a Natural Fiber?
Viscose is not entirely a natural fiber, but it is a fiber derived from natural sources (regenerated cellulose). Its raw material comes from natural sources such as wood and plant cellulose; it is not a petroleum-based synthetic fiber like polyester or nylon. This is why viscose stands out for its naturally derived composition while offering a natural sheen and softness similar to silk. In the Portofino Series, viscose is combined with wool and cotton to create a balanced blend of natural and naturally derived fibers.
Portofino and Mediterranean Inspiration
Portofino is a famous, elegant Mediterranean fishing village on Italy’s Ligurian coast, known around the world for its pastel-colored buildings, tranquil harbor, and the clear light that washes over the shore. The Portofino Series brings this Mediterranean inspiration into living spaces with a modern interpretation. The village’s soft, airy palette is reflected in the rug’s warm natural tones and simple lines. Like the shimmer of Mediterranean sunlight on the water, the viscose fiber creates a silky sheen across the surface that shifts with the angle of the light. Wool and cotton balance this sheen with a warm, substantial texture. The result is a series that brings spaces both a calm, elegant Mediterranean atmosphere and a modern, luxurious character.

How Do You Clean a Viscose-Blend Rug?
Portofino Series viscose-wool-cotton blend rugs should only be cleaned by professional rug-cleaning companies. Because the viscose and wool fibers are sensitive to water and excessive moisture, washing at home, machine washing, and wet cleaning are not recommended. For everyday care, use a low-suction vacuum cleaner and gently blot any stains with a slightly damp cloth to help preserve the rug’s silky sheen, texture, and colors for longer.

Protect Its Elegance
To preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven creations made with natural fibers—which add value to your living space—for generations, a careful care routine is essential.
Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When a liquid spills, timing is critical. Using a clean, slightly damp cloth, blot the liquid gently from the surface without rubbing. Always work in the direction of the rug’s pile (the natural direction in which the fibers lie). Rubbing can damage the shape of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If in doubt, stop immediately.
Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use a vacuum cleaner with low suction. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance how natural yarns react to light and prevent uneven changes in color (fading), we recommend rotating your rug every 2 to 6 months.
Expert Care (Professional Cleaning)
Fine textures such as handwoven fibers, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For a thorough clean, seek help only from professional rug care centers specializing in natural fibers.
Washing Instructions
Due to their construction, the exceptional pieces in Carpetdocia collections are not suitable for machine washing. (Only our specific models explicitly marked “Washable” in their names can be washed in household machines on a low-temperature, delicate cycle.)
